LEXINGTON on Route 66
A New Use for the Old Road:
Memory Lane
“Memory Lane” is a stretch of road that is nearly one-mile long and has a series of old road signs and advertisements including a Burma Shave sign. This stretch was used as the original 1926 alignment of Route 66 until a four-lane road was built that bypassed Lexington on the west side.
Lexington has a section of the Mother Road that has been turned into an interpretive walking trail called, “Memory Lane.” Old signs and original pavement greet the Route 66 visitors. A section of Old Route 66 is preserved as a walking trail and park. This is a nice place to take a stroll, a bike ride, or sit and reflect on the old road. This section of original Route 66 is quiet now, come take a listen to hear the faint whispers of all who have traveled this celebrated highway before you.
